What Kind of Place Is It?
This is the modern Woodstock. Tons of stages, tents, booths, concessions, clubs, lights, and magic! It’s essentially a giant four-day party!
My Bonnaroo Experience
I got to attend Bonnaroo 2006. There was a great lineup that year. I got to see Radiohead, Beck, Tom Petty, Gomez, Blue Traveler, Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes, Ben Folds, and more…Amazing! Click here to see the full lineup from that year.
There were constantly things to do and see. Even though it got really hot at times, relief was just around the corner. They had water stations and other places to cool off. Patton Oswalt had a killer set in a nice cool tent. That was fantastica!
The highlight of the festival, for me at least, was Beck and Radiohead. Beck’s show was media rich. They had puppets in the likeness of each band member mimicking the band. If you watched the giant screens, you saw that they would cut from live shots of the band to live shots of the puppets. It was great. Half way through their set, they even had a video they made featuring the puppets and what they did that day before playing the show. After Beck came Radiohead.
I had seen Radiohead a few times before this, but this time I was blown away because they played a bunch of new songs. They were playing stuff off of In Rainbows, which didn’t end up coming out until more than a year later. That was a long wait to hear those great songs again, but what a way to be introduced to their new stuff. I could not ask for anything more.
If you can afford it, I definitely recommend getting the VIP tickets. There were a lot of nice tents full of fans and drinks and food set up just for VIP’s. There was also special reserved bleacher seating for those ticket holders. If I would have known, I would have anted-up.
