Michel Gondry

Director of many music videos for artists including Beck, Bjork, The White Stripes, The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk, Radiohead, and many more. He also directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a few other movies, some commercials, and a couple episodes of Flight of the Conchords. This guy goes his own way and it’s a good thing he does. His way is awesome!

How I Know

I can’t claim to have known about Michel Gondry since the beginning. I found out about Michel when I received his last DVD, The Work of Director Michel Gondry (2003), as a present from a friend. Which reminds me, he just came out with a new DVD.

I remember when I first got the dvd and started watching it; it is such a great muse. I’m still astounded at how much time he put into it. He talks about his family, his inspirations, his dreams, and he explains how he injects all of it into his work. He reveals so much that you’ll recognize things in movies made before and after and you will be able to relate them to parts of his life. Amazing!

Now That’s Teamwork!

After learning all about Michel, he easily became one of my favorite directors. I looked up any projects he was working on at the time. I found out he was working on a project with one of my favorie screen writers, Charlie Kauffman. I couldn’t belive it. It’s great how the stars align sometimes. They were teaming up on a movie called Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. In direct contrast to my belief that expectations can kill, mine were sky-high. In the end, it didn’t matter. It still exceeded my expecations. What a great film!
