Jewelry Guy

This guy was decked in jewelry.  His neck was something for Mr. T to envy.  Both of his hands were weighed down by rings; one went across three of his fingers spelling out his name, Jose.  It looked like monogrammed brass knuckles.  There must be a correlation with how slicked back your hair is, how many inches of unbottoned shirt across your neck, and how sleazy you come across.  That was Jose, and he was my client.
He kept distracting me while I was working with him by trying to chat me up about random stuff, then came the pitch.

“I see you’re wearing a ring.”  (Note: I’m not a big jewelry guy myself.  The only thing I wear is a ring on my right thumb.  I’ve worn it for over 13 years because it was a going away gift a group of friends gave me when I moved.)

“How about I make you a ring like mine?”  He pointed at his Jose brass knuckle rings.  ”But with your name, of course.”

“Nah.  No thanks.  So let’s get back to this.”

So he tells me that he’s really into jewelry.  No, you, really?  He even makes jewelry on the side and sells them.  I can’t remember what he quoted me for my own personalized rings.

Don’t let this opportunity get away

I had about five minutes left before I was done with Jose when it hit me.  My encounter with him was funny, but what could I do to have him make a lasting impression.  Plus, I wanted to tell Brad all about him.  I knew we’d have a good laugh about it.

“All right, Jose.  It was nice to meet you.”

“You too, Angel.  You sure you don’t want me to make you a ring?”

“I’m sure.  Wait!  You know what, why don’t you draw for me what the ring would look like so that I can think it over.  Maybe even show it to a few people to see if they’re interested in wearing their egos…names too.”

“Sure thing.  I can even play off your name and put wings on it.  If you get me a little battery and hinges I can make it so that the wings flap.  That will be more of a necklace.”

I whipped out a little pad of paper and handed it to him along with a pen.

Then he drew this for me
